Moana 2 Streams on Disney+ March 12

The highly anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2016 smash hit Moana has finally confirmed its release date on Disney+ after an extraordinary run in theaters. Following a massive box office success, Moana 2 earned over $1 billion globally, making it one of the biggest films of 2024.

Disney has now revealed that the film will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting March 12, 2025. For those eager to watch the film before the Disney+ release, Moana 2 is currently available for digital purchase and rental on platforms like Prime Video, iTunes, and the Microsoft Store.

The first Moana film has been a major hit on Disney+, and it’s expected that the sequel will draw massive viewership in the months to come.

Originally planned as a TV series, Moana 2 was ultimately re-envisioned as a theatrical film, a decision that paid off handsomely with the movie’s phenomenal box office performance. The film became the third highest-grossing movie of 2024, trailing only Disney’s own Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, and it set a new record for the biggest Thanksgiving opening in U.S. history.

The Moana franchise is far from over, with a live-action remake of the first film scheduled for release in 2026. Dwayne Johnson will reprise his iconic role as Maui, while Catherine Laga’aia will take on the role of Moana. Johnson recently addressed leaked photos from the set, revealing that the transformation process to achieve his character’s physique took hours every day with the help of a special bodysuit.

“That’s a suit that took a long time to put on,” Johnson said in an interview with Extra TV. “I’m happy you liked it. I can’t wait for the movie to come out.”

Fans of Moana can look forward to plenty more adventure from the beloved franchise in the years to come.
