Yemen’s Houthi rebel group has launched a missile attack targeting Israel’s main and largest international airport, Ben Gurion International Airport. The group’s spokesperson, Yahya Saree, confirmed the news.
However, he did not directly admit to attacking the airport itself. In a statement on Friday night, the Houthi spokesperson said that several Zulfiqar ballistic missiles were fired targeting a military installation near Ben Gurion International Airport that evening.
According to a report by Israel’s media outlet Times of Israel, the missiles did not strike the airport. They were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their target.
Yahya Saree also stated that, in addition to the attempted attack on Ben Gurion Airport on Friday, the Houthi group also launched missile attacks targeting U.S. aircraft carriers patrolling in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. They also claimed to have shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone.
The previous day, on Thursday, U.S. forces launched an attack on the Ras Issa oil terminal in Yemen, killing at least 74 people and injuring 17 more. This was the deadliest U.S. attack in Yemen so far. The Houthi group retaliated with this counterattack the following day.
“If the United States continues its attacks, the number of retaliatory strikes, conflicts, and confrontations will only increase, not decrease,” Saree said in the statement.
