Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Movie Begins Filming

The highly anticipated Supergirl movie, officially titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially started filming in the UK. Starring House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock as the iconic superhero, the movie is one of the first entries in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, following the upcoming Superman film set for release this summer.

Production is underway at Warner Bros Studio Leavesden, with acclaimed director Craig Gillespie, known for Cruella and I, Tonya, at the helm.

Based on the comic of the same name, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will explore the stark differences between Supergirl and Superman. James Gunn explained that while Superman was raised on Earth by loving parents, Supergirl’s backstory is much darker. “She was raised on a chunk of Krypton and witnessed the destruction of her home world, so she’s a much more jaded character,” he said.

In addition to Alcock, it was announced last month that Jason Momoa will join the film as the anti-hero bounty hunter Lobo. Momoa, who previously played Aquaman in the now-concluded DCEU, confirmed his casting in a recent Instagram post. Sharing a quote from a past interview where he discussed his long-time desire to play Lobo, Momoa wrote, “They called,” confirming his role in the new film.

With production now in full swing, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow promises to introduce a bold new chapter in the DC Universe.
