Meta Launches Edit: A New Video Editing App Amidst TikTok Ban

Meta is set to launch a new video editing app called Edit, which will be available for both Android and iOS users. The announcement comes just as TikTok faces a ban in the US. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed that Edit is more than just a video editing app; it’s a full suite of creative tools. The app will feature a dedicated tab for inspiration, a tab to keep track of ideas, and a high-quality camera.

The Edit app will be available for pre-order on the Apple App Store and will soon be available on Google Play Store for Android smartphones. However, the app will only be downloadable next month, with Meta working with video creators to gather feedback and improve the experience.

Interestingly, the timing of the announcement seems deliberate, coinciding with the TikTok ban. The Edit app also bears a striking resemblance to CapCut, a video editor by TikTok-maker ByteDance. This isn’t the first time Meta has capitalized on market gaps, as seen with the launch of Reels in India after TikTok’s ban and Threads after Twitter’s revamp.
