Massive Protest Erupts Outside Bangladeshi Deputy High Commission in Kolkata

Subheading: Demonstrators Condemn Alleged Atrocities Against Hindus in Bangladesh and Arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das

Kolkata, 29 November 2024

A massive protest took place outside the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata, organized by a large group of Indian Hindus. The demonstrators voiced their anger over alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh and the recent arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu leader in Bangladesh.

Protesters accused the Bangladeshi government of failing to protect the rights of Hindu minorities and expressed concerns over the suppression of religious freedom. The rally turned tense as demonstrators broke through barricades and gathered near the Deputy High Commission, sparking diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

The protest comes amid growing criticism from citizens on both sides of the border. Opinions have been divided, with some defending the rights of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh while others call for unity and respect for secular principles in the country.

Public and Citizen Reactions

Support for Secular Principles in Bangladesh:

Many citizens in Bangladesh emphasized that Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists are all equal under the country’s secular constitution. One individual stated:

“Hindus were born in Bangladesh. They are citizens of Bangladesh. Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists all have equal rights. Do extremists not understand this, or are they pretending not to? Bangladesh is a secular country.”

Controversy Over Incidents in Bangladeshi Schools:

Meanwhile, a separate incident in a Bangladeshi primary school has drawn criticism after allegations surfaced that students were involved in dishonoring India’s national flag on school grounds. Observers have questioned what kind of values are being taught to children in such settings, adding another layer to the ongoing tensions between the two nations.

The situation remains highly sensitive, with calls from both sides urging governments to address the grievances while upholding mutual respect and security for all communities.
