Emiliano Martinez, who played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory, has announced that he will retire from international football once he wins another World Cup with his country. The goalkeeper, who was also named the best goalkeeper of the tournament, stated that his decision to retire depends on the team’s success.
In an interview, Martinez said, “If we manage to win back-to-back World Cups, I will retire from the national team. We must make space for the younger players.” He added that while he doesn’t expect to win two consecutive World Cups, achieving such a feat would be an incredible feeling.
Reflecting on the 2022 World Cup final against France, Martinez shared that before the match, he played “Call of Duty” with friends and had a snack before the technical discussions.
