A man is in police custody as investigators continue to probe the death of a 15-year-old boy found in bushland in Sydney’s south-west. The teenager’s body was discovered at around 7:25 AM on Saturday in the Wilton area.
Following a public appeal for information, a 32-year-old man voluntarily presented himself at Narellan Police Station just after 4 PM. New South Wales police confirmed that no charges had yet been laid, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Acting Superintendent Tim Calman stated that while the exact circumstances of the boy’s death remain unclear, the teenager had been at a camping site with a group of around a dozen “associates.” Authorities believe the incident occurred on Friday night, though the precise timeline is still under investigation.
“At this stage, it appears they may have been camping in the area,” Calman said. He added that police were speaking with witnesses and canvassing the region for further information.
Evidence found at the scene suggests that the boy’s death occurred close to the campsite. Emergency services were alerted after the body was located, and Camden Police secured the area while awaiting specialist forensic teams. Wilton Park Road was closed, and a crime scene was established as investigations continued.
The boy’s family has been notified, though formal identification is expected to take place in the coming days. It has been confirmed that the teenager was from the Picton area.
