Los Angeles wildfire: 30,000 residents evacuated

A huge plume of smoke from the wildfires has engulfed much of the Los Angeles metropolitan city.

A fast-growing wildfire has broken out in an elite area of the US city of Los Angeles. This has destroyed houses as well as created traffic jams. About 30,000 people in the area have been evacuated.

Huge plumes of smoke from the wildfires on Tuesday engulfed much of the metropolitan city.

Officials said at least 2,921 acres in the Pacific Paradise area between coastal Santa Monica and Malibu had burned.
Witnesses said they saw several houses burning as they fled Topanga Canyon and the heat was so high that their cars almost burned. The fire spread from there to the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

“We are reassured that no one has been injured,” Los Angeles Fire Chief Christine Crowley said at a news conference. ”

He said more than 25,000 residents of another 10,000 homes were under threat.

As the sun sets in Los Angeles, the mountains near Topanga Canyon are lit up by orange flames.

Before the fires began, the National Weather Service issued the highest wildfire alert for much of Los Angeles County from Tuesday to Thursday. Winds can blow at a maximum speed of 80 to 130 kilometers per hour in the form of gusty winds over those areas, they said.

The National Weather Service’s Los Angeles office said on social media X, “Due to the lack of rain, low water vapor and dry vegetation, wildfire-like conditions prevail.” ”

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide state of emergency due to the risk of wildfires in large areas of California.

The California Fire Service said another wildfire started in the mountains around Pasadena, about 50 kilometers inland from the Pacific Paradise area, and spread over an area of 200 acres. This fire has been named ‘Eaton Fire’.
