Kyiv has received the remains of hundreds of soldiers killed in the war with Russia. Since the beginning of the conflict, both nations have been exchanging prisoners as well as the bodies of deceased soldiers.
This exchange underscores the devastating impact of the war, which has intensified as the third anniversary of the conflict approaches.
Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters has confirmed that 757 soldiers’ bodies have been brought back from Russia.
Casualties and Concealment
Both countries typically avoid disclosing the exact number of military casualties. However, in December, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed, with 370,000 injured. Still, the actual figures are believed to be significantly higher.
On the other hand, Russia neither provides data on its casualties nor openly discusses the repatriation of its soldiers’ remains.
Russia Agrees to Talks with the U.S. on Ukraine
Meanwhile, Russia has expressed readiness to engage in discussions with the United States regarding the Ukraine conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, shared this update on Thursday, January 23.
This announcement followed a warning from U.S. President Donald Trump on January 22, cautioning Russia that failure to end the war could lead to higher tariffs and additional sanctions. Subsequently, Russia agreed to enter discussions.
