Kremlin Says Russian Peace Proposal for Ukraine Still in Progress

The Voice News:MOSCOW – The Kremlin announced on Monday that Russia is continuing to work on a draft peace memorandum related to the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the draft has not yet been officially submitted as it requires thorough review and careful preparation.

This update follows a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump last week, in which Putin stated that Russia and Ukraine would begin working on a peace agreement. However, this move was met with skepticism by Kyiv and several European governments, who accused Moscow of using the proposal to stall the peace process.

Peskov rejected these claims, emphasizing that Russia remains committed to a genuine resolution. “This is a serious document that demands detailed checks and preparation,” he told reporters.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the draft would be handed to Ukraine after a prisoner swap — agreed upon during earlier talks in Istanbul — was completed. That exchange, involving 1,000 prisoners from each side, concluded on Sunday, according to Russia’s defense ministry.

Peskov confirmed that the peace process would continue based on the agreements made in Istanbul, with the prisoner swap marking a significant first step.
