Kendrick Lamar Releases Surprise Album ‘GNX’

Kendrick Lamar has unexpectedly released his new album, GNX, which includes collaborations with SZA, Jack Antonoff, and Kamasi Washington.

The 12-track album features several high-profile artists, including SZA, who contributes to the tracks “Luther” and “Gloria.” Other notable collaborators include Sam Dew, Roddy Ricch, Bobby Hawk, Ink, and many more. The album also includes “Heart Pt. 6,” the latest installment in Lamar’s ongoing series, which was referenced in one of Drake’s diss tracks during their public back-and-forth earlier this year.

Rumors had been circulating for months about Lamar working on a new project. DJ Snake had hinted that Mustard had contributed to several tracks, and speculated a surprise appearance by Taylor Swift. However, she does not appear on the album.

Lamar also addresses his controversial Super Bowl Halftime Show performance on the opening track, “Wacced Out Murals.” The performance, which took place in New Orleans, sparked criticism online, with many fans suggesting Lil Wayne should have been given the spot. Lamar raps, “I used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down… Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me, all these n—s agitated, I’m just glad it’s on they faces.”

GNX drops as Lamar wraps up a major year. He made headlines earlier in 2024 for his ongoing feud with Drake, releasing a series of singles including “Euphoria,” “Meet the Grahams,” and “Not Like Us,” the latter of which became the only song to chart significantly. Recently, it was announced that Not Like Us was nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
