At least 10 people were killed and more than a dozen injured in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza early Thursday, according to medics with Gaza’s health authorities.
Five people lost their lives and 20 others were wounded when an airstrike hit a house in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. Medics warned that the death toll could climb as rescue efforts continued, with many believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
In another incident, five journalists were killed when a marked media vehicle was struck near Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, central Gaza. The journalists, employed by Al-Quds Al-Youm television channel, had been covering events inside the hospital and the nearby Nuseirat camp.
The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the strike, stating the air force targeted the vehicle because members of the Islamic Jihad militant group were inside.
Tensions between Hamas and Israel remain high. Despite reported progress in ceasefire negotiations in recent days, both sides have blamed each other for the failure to reach an agreement.
Since Israel’s military offensive on Gaza began on Oct 7, 2023, more than 45,361 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
