Israel Launches New Wave of Airstrikes on Iranian Military Targets in Western Iran

June 17, 2025 – Tehran/JerusalemA fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes has struck multiple military installations in western Iran overnight, in what defense analysts are calling one of the most extensive aerial operations since hostilities between the two nations reignited earlier this month.According to regional sources and Israeli defense officials, the latest barrage targeted surface-to-surface missile batteries, UAV storage units, radar installations, and air-defense systems across the provinces of Kermanshah, Esfahan, and Tabriz. The strikes reportedly focused on military infrastructure linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and strategic missile network. This development comes amid Operation Rising Lion, Israel’s ongoing military campaign to dismantle Iran’s long-range strike capabilities. Israeli defense sources claim more than 200 military assets have been hit since the operation began on June 13, including command centers, launch sites, and drone bases.“Israel will continue to target any threat to its sovereignty and security,” said an Israeli military spokesperson, emphasizing that the operations are preemptive in nature, aimed at curbing Tehran’s growing missile capacity.Iranian state media has confirmed the attacks but downplayed the extent of damage. However, footage from social media platforms showed fires and explosions near military compounds, and several civilian reports cited casualties in areas close to the targeted zones. Iran’s Ministry of Defense has vowed “decisive retaliation.”In recent days, Iran launched missile and drone attacks deep into Israeli territory, hitting areas near Tel Aviv and Haifa. Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling defense systems intercepted a majority of those attacks, but damage and civilian injuries were reported. With rising casualties on both sides and the continued exchange of fire, fears of a wider regional conflict are intensifying. Neighboring countries including Iraq, Turkey, and Gulf states have issued security advisories, while the U.S. has reinforced its military presence in the Eastern Mediterranean to deter further escalation.Diplomatic efforts remain stalled, as both Tehran and Jerusalem maintain hardline positions. Iran has also threatened to withdraw from international nuclear treaties, further raising alarm among Western governments. As the airstrikes expand beyond traditional nuclear sites into broader military infrastructure, the conflict between Israel and Iran appears poised to enter a more dangerous and unpredictable phase.
