Israel Airstrike Kills IRGC Chief Hossein Salami

The Voice News: Hossein Salami, the head of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been killed in an Israeli airstrike, according to Iranian media reports cited by Reuters and the BBC.On Friday, June 13, Israel launched air raids on several dozen Iranian nuclear and military targets. Tel Aviv warned that this assault marked only the beginning of a long-term operation aimed at deterring Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.Iranian state broadcasters reported that the IRGC’s headquarters was hit in the attack, resulting in the death of its top commander, Major General Hossein Salami.Salami began his nearly 45-year career with the Revolutionary Guards in 1980, during the Iran-Iraq war. Over time, he rose through the ranks due to his military acumen and loyalty. He was known for his hardline stance and fiery rhetoric against the United States and its allies.Since the early 2000s, he had been under sanctions from the United States and the United Nations Security Council for his alleged involvement in Iran’s nuclear program.Under Salami’s leadership, Iran launched its first-ever direct military strike on Israel last year, deploying over 300 drones and missiles.Although Iran had been engaged in nuclear program discussions with the U.S. in recent months, tensions with Israel showed no signs of easing. Just yesterday, Salami had declared that Iran was prepared for any scenario, situation, or consequence. He stated, “The enemy (Israel) thinks it can handle us like the helpless Palestinians under blockade. But let them not forget—we are experienced and battle-hardened.”
