Iran will never deplete its uranium stockpile as part of any agreement with the United States, an Iranian official has stated.
Speaking to Reuters on Friday (April 18), the official further said, “Iran’s red line—which Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has made mandatory—will never be compromised. Iran’s red line includes: dismantling uranium centrifuges, halting uranium enrichment altogether, or reducing the uranium stockpile below the level it was before the 2015 nuclear deal.”
He also mentioned that Iran will not engage in any negotiations regarding its missile program.
The official added, “In last week’s meeting held in Oman, Iran realized that the United States does not want us to completely shut down our nuclear activities. This could become a common ground for discussions between Iran and the United States.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, Iran stated that if the United States is serious about the agreement and does not make any unreasonable demands, then a deal could be possible between them.
However, on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that if Iran wants to make a deal with them, it must stop and deplete its uranium enrichment program.
In addition, Iran has sought assurance that Donald Trump will not back out of the deal again, as he did in 2018. Tehran also informed Washington last week that they might make some concessions on uranium enrichment as part of the agreement.
