Asked whether the United States would agree to a new deal, Zarif said: “I hope that this time around, the second Trump administration will be more serious, more focused and more realistic.
In 2015, the United States and Iran, along with China, France, Germany, Russia, the European Union and the United Kingdom, reached an agreement called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the deal, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear program. Instead of complying with the conditions, various types of sanctions imposed on Iran at that time were lifted.
However, Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal in 2018. He withdrew from the deal and imposed new sanctions on Iran. However, he said he would return to the old deal if Joe Biden returned to the White House. Although the world powers have discussed this at various times, it has not been successful.
On January 20, when Trump took office for a second term as the President of the United States, the deal came under new discussion. In recent months, several European countries have held talks with Iran on the issue. But now it remains to be seen which way Trump walks on the issue of nuclear deal with Iran.
