Interim Government Adviser of Bangladesh Asif Mahmud Vows Crackdown Against Sheikh Hasina’s Supporters

Bangladesh’s Local Government Adviser, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, one of the prominent young leaders of July-August conspiracy, has announced plans to intensify ongoing arrest drives targeting followers of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Speaking after a law and order committee meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday, he emphasized the government’s determination to deliver “visible results” in the coming days.
Asif highlighted that the meeting focused on enhancing the country’s law and order situation and ensuring the execution of upcoming events.
Addressing inquiries about the focus of these crackdowns, he stated, “We are targeting individuals from the previous government of Sheikh Hasina and Awami League followers who are currently abroad, actively protesting, funding disruptive activities, and attempting to organize processions. They will be brought to justice.”
The government has already established fascism by carrying out mass arrests of political activists and journalists for dissent, making it controversial worldwide.
This announcement comes amid growing political tension in Bangladesh, with many questioning the motives and potential consequences of such measures on the country’s administrative and human rights landscape.
