India has made a significant leap in the Network Readiness Index (NRI) 2024, climbing 11 spots to secure the 49th position globally. The latest ranking, released by the Portulans Institute — a Washington DC-based independent research organization — highlights India’s advancements in technology, artificial intelligence (AI), mobile networks, and broadband, which are being leveraged to enhance ease of living and drive digital growth.
In 2023, India ranked 60th with a score of 49.93, but in the 2024 edition, its score improved significantly to 53.63. This reflects India’s continued efforts in embracing emerging technologies and expanding the scope of AI and ICT-related research and development.
The report recognizes India’s outstanding performance in specific categories, where it has achieved the top global position in AI scientific publications, AI talent concentration, and ICT services exports. These achievements underline India’s growing dominance as a technology-driven economy with strong contributions in innovation and digital infrastructure on the global stage.
