India-Pakistan Ceasefire Achieved After 48 Hours of Intensive Effort by Marco Rubio and JD Vance

A ceasefire agreement has been reached between India and Pakistan following 48 hours of intense diplomatic efforts by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. Rubio himself confirmed the development through a post on social media platform X.

In his statement, Rubio mentioned that he and Vice President Vance had engaged in continuous discussions over the past two days with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other top officials from both nations.

“I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and will begin detailed discussions on various issues at a neutral location,” said Rubio.

He praised both leaders, stating, “I commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”

Before Rubio’s announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that India and Pakistan had agreed to an immediate and complete ceasefire, following prolonged U.S.-mediated negotiations. In his post on X, President Trump said, “I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and total ceasefire. Congratulations to both sides for choosing wisdom.”

Following Trump’s announcement, both countries confirmed the ceasefire. India’s central government declared that starting at 5:00 PM local time on Saturday, all military actions—including firing by army, air force, and navy—toward Pakistan would cease.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations called his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM (IST) on Saturday. During their conversation, both sides agreed to halt all forms of military activities—shelling, airstrikes, and naval operations—beginning at 5:00 PM.

Pakistani Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the agreement via a statement on X, stating that Pakistan remains committed to ensuring peace and security in the region while never compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Immediately after the ceasefire was implemented, Pakistan’s aviation authorities reopened the country’s airspace to all commercial flights.
