India Orders Identification and Deportation of Pakistani Nationals Following Visa Revocation

In a decisive response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed all Chief Ministers to identify Pakistani nationals residing in their respective states and initiate steps for their prompt deportation.

This directive follows the Indian government’s announcement to suspend all visa services for Pakistani nationals with immediate effect. All existing valid visas issued to Pakistani citizens will be revoked effective April 27, 2025. Medical visas will remain valid only until April 29, 2025. Pakistani nationals currently in India are required to leave the country before their visa expiry dates.

The Ministry of External Affairs has also advised Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Pakistan and urged those currently in Pakistan to return to India at the earliest opportunity.

These measures are part of a broader five-point action plan adopted by the Cabinet Committee on Security in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists. The plan includes suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border, and reducing diplomatic staff in both countries.

The Indian government has attributed the attack to cross-border terrorism and is taking these steps to ensure national security and hold accountable those responsible for the violence.
