As the UN Security Council (UNSC) meetings are set to begin this month, India is preparing to counter Pakistan’s anticipated efforts to internationalize the Kashmir issue. With the support of permanent council members such as Russia, France, and the US, New Delhi aims to thwart Pakistan’s plans.
Pakistan, which will serve as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the 2025-26 term starting Wednesday, is expected to raise the Kashmir issue and other disputes with India. This includes matters related to the sanctions of international terrorists.
India is banking on the support of its old allies and European UNSC members to counter Pakistan’s efforts. Additionally, all eyes will be on China, Pakistan’s long-time ally. Despite recent improvements in relations between India and China, Beijing’s stance at the UNSC remains uncertain.
India also plans to coordinate with other non-permanent members of the UNSC, including Algeria, Greece, Denmark, and Slovenia, to strengthen its position.
