Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned, may be released on June 11. On that day, a hearing will take place regarding the annulment of his sentence in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. A hearing on the appeal filed by his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the same case will also be held.
PTI’s senior leader Gohar Ali Khan stated that the court may grant bail to both Imran and Bushra on that day. He remarked that June 11 is going to be a “significant day” for them, although he did not elaborate further on why it would be important.
Earlier, the country’s High Court had postponed the hearing to June 11. The court rescheduled the date after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) requested more time to prepare its arguments.
Gohar Ali Khan told media outlet ARY News that they will launch a movement in collaboration with other opposition parties, which will be led by Imran Khan himself.
Last week, Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, announced that they would start a nationwide movement for Imran Khan’s release after Eid-ul-Azha.
Since being ousted through a no-confidence vote, numerous cases have been filed against Imran Khan, although he has only been convicted in a few. One of the most prominent is the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. The current government of Pakistan accuses him of embezzling hundreds of millions of dollars through this trust. However, Imran Khan denies all charges brought against him.
