Imran Khan in ‘Death Cell’ in Pakistan Prison: PTI Claims

Imran Khan, not only a former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but also the captain of Pakistan’s World Cup-winning cricket team, is reportedly being held in a solitary confinement ‘death cell’ at Adiala Jail. This claim was made by PTI, according to The Express Tribune.

PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that Imran Khan is being kept in a cell usually reserved for death row inmates. At a press conference, Akram said, “Imran Khan has been placed in a death cell, isolated in a solitary confinement.”

He further alleged that Khan was placed in the death cell even before being convicted, aiming to break his spirit. Additionally, PTI claims that the prison authorities are not allowing Khan’s family, political associates, or close friends to meet him. Even his legal counsel and close relatives are being denied access.

According to PTI, despite a court order allowing six individuals to visit Imran Khan in prison, the authorities are violating this order. PTI has filed a contempt of court case over the issue, raising concerns about Khan’s well-being. The party expressed worries about his health and claimed that he is being disrespected as a former Prime Minister.

Notably, Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 5, 2023.
