as confirmed by the governing body of world cricket today. Allardice joined the ICC as General Manager in 2012, after leaving his role as Operations Manager at Cricket Australia (CA). In November 2021, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer following an eight-month stint as Acting CEO after the dismissal of Manu Sawhney.
Explaining his sudden resignation, Allardice stated that he is stepping down to pursue new challenges. In a statement issued by the ICC, the 57-year-old administrator said, “It has been an honor to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council. I am truly proud of what we have achieved, from expanding cricket globally to establishing a strong commercial foundation for ICC members.”
He also expressed his gratitude to those in the cricket community, saying, “I want to thank the ICC Chair, Board of Directors, and the entire cricket community for their support and collaboration over the last 13 years. I believe this is the right time to step down and embrace new challenges. I am confident that exciting times lie ahead for cricket, and I wish the ICC and the global cricket community every success in the future.”
ICC Chairman Jay Shah thanked Allardice for his dedicated service, saying, “On behalf of the ICC Board, I would like to sincerely thank Geoff (Allardice) for his leadership and commitment as CEO. His efforts to advance cricket globally have been instrumental. We are truly grateful for his contributions and wish him the very best for the future.”
The ICC further stated that the process of appointing Allardice’s successor will begin soon.
