Days after ordering the withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization, US President Donald Trump said he might consider rejoining the global organization.
He was speaking at a rally in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Claiming that the global health organization could not deal properly with the Covid-19 epidemic and other international health crises, Trump ordered to take necessary measures to get the United States out of this specialized agency of the United Nations after coming to power.
“Maybe we can consider joining again. I don’t know, maybe. But before that, they need to fix a lot of things,” the US president told the rally.
If all goes well, the United States will officially leave the World Health Organization on January 22 next year.
Trump took this step on Monday, the day he was sworn in for a second term.
The United States is by far the largest financial sponsor of the World Health Organization; About 18 percent of the organization’s total money came from the country. The UN agency’s latest budget for 2024-25 is $6.8 billion.
Trump told the crowd in Las Vegas that he was unhappy that the United States was spending more on the World Health Organization than China, a larger country in terms of population.
The US president also said he would ask Saudi Arabia to invest $1 trillion in the United States.
A few days ago, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman pledged to invest $ 600 billion in the United States to expand trade during Trump’s four-year term in the White House. Trump is now seeking $400 billion more investment from the Gulf state.
