A 21-year-old Hindu youth, Hridoy Rabi Das, has died following an alleged assault over his relationship with a Muslim woman in the Karimganj area of Kishoreganj district. The victim, a barber by profession, was reportedly attacked on accusations of attempting to convert the woman to his faith.
According to credible sources, Hridoy was handed over to military personnel after being beaten by locals. He later fell critically ill under their custody and succumbed to his injuries at the Abdul Hamid Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Saturday, November 16.
The Incident
The attack reportedly began on Friday evening, November 15, when a group of local individuals forcibly removed Hridoy from his salon and assaulted him. He was then taken to a nearby military camp in Karimganj. The following morning, his family was informed that he had been admitted to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
Hridoy’s body bore signs of physical assault, including bleeding from his mouth, according to hospital officials.
Hospital Statement
The assistant director of Abdul Hamid Medical College Hospital stated, “Hridoy was brought to the hospital by military personnel around 2:10 a.m. on Saturday. His condition worsened, and he was transferred to the ICU, where he died. Marks of physical assault were visible on his body.”
Family’s Grief and Call for Justice
Ananti Rabi Das, Hridoy’s mother, expressed her devastation over the death of her son. “They delivered my son’s lifeless body wrapped in a shroud. Only a grieving parent can understand this pain,” she said, demanding justice for what she described as her son’s murder.
Hridoy was a resident of Panahar village in Joyka Union under Karimganj Upazila.
Police Investigation
Kishoreganj Police Superintendent confirmed that the body was sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College for post-mortem examination. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
