Heavy Exchange of Fire Between Indian and Pakistani Troops Along Kashmir Border

For the sixth consecutive night, Indian and Pakistani forces have engaged in heavy gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. The latest incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, April 29. No casualties have been reported so far.

According to Indian media outlet NDTV, intense firing erupted across the international border in the Pargwal sector of Jammu and Kashmir, reportedly initiated by Pakistani forces. The Indian Army claims this is the most significant ceasefire violation by Pakistan since the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead — the deadliest attack in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.

The Indian military reported that Pakistan has been initiating unprovoked firing in three key sectors of the LoC in the Jammu region for the past six nights. Indian forces responded with what they termed “effective retaliation” at every location.

This escalation follows a major terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which has severely strained diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan. In response, India suspended the crucial Indus Waters Treaty, while Pakistan retaliated by suspending the Simla Agreement and closing its airspace to Indian aircraft.

Tensions further intensified after gunmen targeted tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, prompting the initial exchange of fire between the two militaries on Thursday night last week.

Additionally, both nations have issued orders for each other’s citizens to cancel their visas and return home within 48 hours.
