Harris Holds Narrow Lead Over Trump in Tight Presidential Race, Reuters/Ipsos Poll Shows

WASHINGTON– Vice President Kamala Harris has a slim 3-point edge over former President Donald Trump in the lead-up to the November 5 U.S. presidential election, with Harris polling at 45% and Trump at 42%, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos survey.

The poll, which wrapped up on Sunday, indicates voter enthusiasm is higher than it was in 2020. About 78% of registered voters—86% of Democrats and 81% of Republicans—said they were “completely certain” they would vote, an increase from the 2020 figures.

Despite Harris’ slight lead, the race remains close, particularly in key battleground states where results are within the margin of error. The poll’s margin of error is approximately 4 percentage points.

Harris vs. Trump on Key Issues

Harris, who entered the race in July after President Joe Biden decided not to seek re-election, is viewed more favorably on issues like healthcare and political extremism. She leads Trump by 14 points on healthcare policy and 5 points on handling political extremism.

However, the economy remains a top concern for voters, with 26% citing it as the most important issue. In this area, Trump holds a 5-point advantage over Harris, with 45% of voters saying he is better equipped to handle the economy, unemployment, and jobs.

With the election just weeks away, both candidates are focusing on mobilizing their supporters, as voter turnout could be the key factor in this close contest.
