The Palestinian armed group Hamas has stated that it is committed to implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The organization has confirmed that it will continue releasing Israeli hostages within the stipulated timeframe as per the terms of the agreement, according to British news outlet BBC.
After a meeting with mediators in Cairo on Thursday, Hamas stated that Egyptian and Qatari mediators have assured them of removing any obstacles to the agreement’s implementation.
There was no immediate comment from Israel on the matter. However, Egypt and Qatar have said that mediators have helped narrow the differences between the two sides and that both parties are committed to implementing the agreement.
On Tuesday, Israel had warned that if Hamas did not release the hostages by Saturday, the ceasefire would end. Hamas, on the other hand, claimed that Israel had violated the terms of the agreement and had not allowed sufficient humanitarian aid to enter. However, Israel has denied these allegations.
Following Hamas’ announcement, former U.S. President Donald Trump advised Israel to cancel the agreement. He stated that if all hostages were not released by Saturday, Israel should take strict measures.
