The Palestinian militant group Hamas has reached an agreement with the United States, under which five hostages will be released. Among them, one is alive, while the other four are deceased. All five individuals held dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship.
The living hostage, identified as Idan Alexander, was a member of the Israeli military. Hamas confirmed the decision in an official statement on Friday (March 14), stating:
“Yesterday, Hamas leadership received a proposal from mediating parties to initiate discussions. This morning, we responded positively and responsibly. As part of this agreement, Israeli soldier Idan Alexander, who also holds U.S. citizenship, will be released, and the bodies of four dual citizens will be returned.”
Additionally, Hamas has urged Israel to proceed with the second phase of a ceasefire.
