Veteran actor George Clooney isn’t losing sleep over Donald Trump’s latest insult. After the former U.S. President labeled him a “fake movie actor” on Truth Social, Clooney offered a calm but pointed response during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings.
While promoting his Broadway debut in Good Night and Good Luck, Clooney was asked about Trump’s recent remarks. Unfazed, Clooney replied, “I don’t care.” He added, “I’ve known Trump for a long time. My job is not to please the President of the United States. My job is to try and tell the truth when I can and when I have the opportunity.”
The Ocean’s Eleven star acknowledged that speaking out often invites backlash. “I know people won’t like that. I know they’ll criticize that. But that’s their right—and it’s my right to say my piece too,” he said.
Clooney also mentioned Elon Musk had weighed in on him recently, but again, emphasized that differing opinions are part of public life: “That’s the nature of it.”
For context, Clooney sparked headlines last year after writing an op-ed in The New York Times, where he called on President Joe Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election. In the piece, Clooney praised Biden’s service but expressed concerns about his age and the party’s chances against Trump in the general election.
Trump fired back on Truth Social, posting, “So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are.”
Despite Trump’s attacks, Clooney seems unbothered, standing firm in his beliefs and continuing to speak his truth—on and off the stage.
