Gaza ceasefire talks resume in Qatar, violence continues

Israel said on Saturday it had resumed talks with Hamas in Qatar on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. Meanwhile, more than 30 Palestinians have been killed in fresh bombardment in Gaza amid ceasefire talks, rescue workers say.

Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said 11 people were killed in an airstrike on the home of the al-Ghoula family in Gaza City early Saturday. Seven children were among the dead.

Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has confirmed the resumption of hostage release talks with Hamas in Qatar amid Israel’s ongoing offensive on Gaza.

On October 7, 2023, Gaza’s armed group Hamas struck southern Israel, killing nearly 1,200 people. About 250 more were taken hostage.

Katz’s office said the minister told relatives of Israeli soldier Leri Albagh, who was held hostage by Hamas, that efforts were underway to free the hostages.
