Former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad’s Viral Video: A Humorous Search for RM3 Billion

A video of Malaysia’s former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has gone viral again, this time involving a “search” for his purported billions. In an 86-second video posted on X on January 12, Tun Dr Mahathir is seen looking around his home for RM3 billion (S$916 million) allegedly in his possession.

He looks behind his TV set and under the sofa, then goes to a bedroom, where he looks under the bed. Dr Mahathir says in the video he has been looking for the money for two years but has yet to find it.

“Looking for RM3 billion, which was supposed to be with me. But it still can’t be found,” he says in the video, as quoted by Sinar Harian on January 13.

His tongue-in-cheek “confession” is seen as a clapback at allegations that he amassed billions of ringgit during his term as prime minister. Dr Mahathir, who turns 100 in 2025, agrees in the video to a suggestion that the money might be in Switzerland.
