Fire Breaks Out on Passenger Plane Before Takeoff in the U.S.; 294 Onboard Escape Unharmed

A Delta Airlines flight preparing for takeoff in the United States caught fire on the tarmac, prompting an emergency evacuation of all passengers and crew. The incident occurred at Orlando International Airport in Florida.

According to a report published on Monday, April 21, by the BBC, the aircraft’s right engine caught fire while the plane was stationary. Delta Airlines Flight 1213 was scheduled to depart for Atlanta with 294 people onboard, including 282 passengers, 10 cabin crew members, and 2 pilots.

Footage shared on social media showed smoke and flames coming from the aircraft’s right engine as passengers evacuated using inflatable emergency slides.

Airport authorities confirmed that there were no injuries. Emergency fire and rescue teams responded swiftly to contain the situation. A video from the scene also showed ambulances and fire trucks positioned near the aircraft, while passengers waited on the tarmac.

In an official statement, Delta Airlines said, “As soon as signs of an engine fire were detected, passengers were evacuated from the cabin.” The airline added, “We are grateful for the cooperation of our passengers and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety, and we are working to get everyone to their destination as quickly as possible.”

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident.
