Father Allegedly Kills Two Children in Pallabi, Attempts Suicide Amid Financial Struggles

In a tragic incident in Dhaka’s Pallabi area, a father allegedly killed his two children by slitting their throats before attempting to take his own life. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM on Saturday, reportedly driven by family disputes and financial hardship.

The victims, identified as Bijoy (7) and Musa (4), were pronounced dead upon arrival at Kurmitola General Hospital. Their father, Md. Ahad (38), was critically injured and has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The family resided in a rented ground-floor apartment in the Baigartek area of Pallabi.

According to Mohammad Maksudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Mirpur Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, preliminary investigations suggest that Ahad killed his children with a knife and then attempted suicide using the same weapon. “The incident appears to be fueled by family conflict and financial difficulties. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact motive,” Rahman said.

Nasir Sarkar, the family’s landlord, stated that Ahad had moved into the apartment three months ago with his wife and two children. Ahad worked as a caretaker for a residential building, while his wife was employed as a domestic worker. “I heard screams from their apartment around 9:30 AM. When I rushed down, I saw the children lying in a pool of blood,” Sarkar recounted, adding that arguments between Ahad and his wife were frequent.

Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun from Dhaka Medical College Hospital confirmed that Ahad’s condition is critical.

Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full details of this harrowing case.
