Arsenal lose points at Brighton

Mikel Arteta’s team lost the chance to reduce the gap with Liverpool to three points in the league table.

Arsenal could not be very effective in the attack. After going ahead in the beginning, the gap could not hold. Mikel Arteta’s side lost the chance to reduce the gap with Liverpool to three points in the league table after stumbling against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Premier League match was drawn 1-1 at Brighton on Saturday night. Joao Pedro equalized from the penalty spot in the second half after Ethan Wanneri put the visitors ahead.

Arsenal lost points after three consecutive wins in the league. They are in second place with 40 points in 11 wins and 7 draws in 20 matches. Liverpool is at the top with 45 points in two matches less than them.

Arsenal went ahead in the 16th minute through Waneri’s excellent goal. He entered the box from the right side of Mikel Merino’s extended pass from the midfield. The 17-year-old English midfielder found the address with a left foot shot in front of a player of the opponent.

This is his second goal this season. He is the first Arsenal player to score multiple goals in the Premier League before his 18th birthday.

Although ahead of the ball, Arsenal could only keep two shots on target in the first half. In the second half, their attack decreased further. Brighton continued to play better in this half. In the 48th minute, Pervis’ shot was stopped by goalkeeper David Raya.
In the 61st minute, Pedro’s successful spot-kick returned to parity. The Brazilian forward was given a penalty by the referee for fouling Arsenal’s William Saliba in the box.

In the rest of the time, the hosts increased the pressure on Arsenal. And even if they did not see the goal, they left the field with valuable points.

Brighton is in 10th place with 28 points in 20 matches with 6 wins and 10 draws.
