Emma Raducanu leads Great Britain to a Billie Jean King Cup quarterfinal

In Britain’s first match since September, 22-year-old Emma Raducanu defeated Germany’s Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-4 at the Billie Jean King Cup. Katie Boulter’s victory secured progression and set up Sunday’s quarterfinal against Canada.

Great Britain advanced to the quarterfinals of the Billie Jean King Cup with to victories by Emma Raducanu, who had not played since September, and Katie Boulter.

Just Two months earlier, Raducanu drew from the Korea Open quarterfinal against Daria Kasatkina due to a strained foot ligament. Since then, she has not played a match. In Malaga,she defeated Germany’s Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-4.
Despite dropping serve twice in the second set (including in the eighth game after wasting match points), she was able to win thanks to three breaks of Niemeier’s serve. In the first set, she saved five break points and rallied from 0-40 down at one point.
