Elon Musk Cancels Virtual Town Hall Due to Technical Issues Shortly After It Starts

Elon Musk’s virtual town hall event, organized in support of former President Donald Trump, ended abruptly on Monday night following technical difficulties on X, the platform Musk owns. Originally scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, the event began streaming over 20 minutes late. After Musk joined, he promoted a recent podcast interview with Joe Rogan and opened the floor to questions, but the event was cut short when an operator’s attempt to take listener questions resulted in silence on the line.

Musk Ends Event Early After Brief Response on Election Outcome

When asked by an operator if he thought “we will win” on Election Day, Musk replied, “Well, I think if people vote tomorrow, we’re definitely going to win.” He then canceled the event, citing technical issues. Musk promised to establish a regular livestream on X and started an X Spaces event immediately after the town hall ended, but the session lasted only one minute and had no audio. Musk ultimately encouraged followers to listen to his Rogan interview instead.

Recurring Technical Glitches Affect Musk’s Election-Related Events on X

Monday’s event marks the latest in a series of election-related broadcasts by Musk that have been affected by technical problems on X. An August interview between Musk and Trump was delayed over 40 minutes due to glitches, which Musk attributed to a cyberattack, though some experts suggested high user traffic was to blame. Similarly, a 2023 X event launching Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid faced a 25-minute delay and significant audio issues.
