The Voice News : American billionaire Elon Musk has strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial budget bill, calling it a “disgusting and shameful bad bill.”
Musk said the bill would impose an unbearable debt burden on American citizens. This was reported by Al Jazeera on Wednesday, June 4.
According to the media outlet, Musk expressed his anger against the bill in several social media posts on Tuesday. Just a few days ago, he ended his tenure as head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where his role was to reduce government spending and identify “unnecessary” sectors for elimination.
Musk wrote: “I’m sorry, but I can’t take it anymore. This huge congressional bill, stuffed with pork, is disgusting and shameful. Shame on those who voted for it! You know you are wrong. You know it.”
He claimed that if implemented, the bill would increase the U.S. budget deficit to $2.5 trillion, placing the country’s citizens under severe debt pressure.
What’s in the Bill?
Known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” this budget proposal is the most important economic initiative of Trump’s second term. It includes: continuation of the 2017 tax cuts, allocation of $46.5 billion for building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and raising the national debt ceiling to $4 trillion.
However, to cover these expenses, the bill proposes harsh cuts to social security programs. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reports that Medicaid will be cut by $698 billion, and $267 billion will be cut from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The bill has sparked dissatisfaction from both Republicans and Democrats. Many members of Congress fear that the bill will harm low-income populations.
Al Jazeera reports that the bill narrowly passed the House of Representatives on May 22 by just one vote (215–214). Although Republicans hold a majority in the House (220 seats), several members were absent or abstained from voting.
On the other hand, all 212 Democrats voted against the bill. Only two Republicans—Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson—voted against the party line opposing the bill.
Musk’s criticism suggests growing tension between him and Trump. However, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated at a press conference: “The President knows what Musk thinks about this bill. But the President’s opinion hasn’t changed.”
She added, “This bill is a ‘big and beautiful achievement,’ and the President remains confident in it.”
Meanwhile, Trump has sharply criticized Republican Senator Rand Paul, who largely supports Musk’s position, writing: “Rand opposes everything but never offers any effective or realistic proposals. He just acts crazy. The people of Kentucky can’t stand him.”
