Diplomatic Tensions Rise as Hungary and Ukraine Expel Each Other’s Diplomats
Budapest/Kyiv, May 10 – Hungary and Ukraine have engaged in a diplomatic standoff, expelling each other’s diplomats amid espionage allegations. The latest development follows Ukraine’s arrest of two individuals accused of spying for Hungary, prompting Budapest to expel two Ukrainian diplomats. In response, Kyiv has similarly expelled two Hungarian diplomats.
Meanwhile, Russia is marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War with a grand military parade, highlighting its historical narrative and military strength.
In diplomatic movements, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has met with EU and NATO officials to discuss European security, while German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has traveled to Lviv to reaffirm Germany’s ongoing support for Ukraine.
