Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, famous for their roles in Charlie’s Angels, reunited with their former co-star Demi Moore in a special video interview with Vanity Fair to celebrate Moore’s critically acclaimed performance in The Substance. The reunion marked the first time all four actresses had come together since Liu’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2019.
Moore, nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth Sparkle, a former TV fitness icon in The Substance, received praise from her co-stars for her raw and vulnerable performance. Liu expressed her pride, stating, “You’ve always had it in you,” adding that Moore’s portrayal of societal pressures on beauty and aging struck a powerful chord.
In The Substance, Moore’s character injects herself with an experimental serum to fight the inevitable fading of her career. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe and a wave of accolades, with nominations from the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, and Critics Choice Awards, cementing her as a top contender for the Best Actress Oscar.
Diaz also shared her admiration, reflecting on the objectification women face in the entertainment industry. “In watching you give this performance, you don’t have to ask anybody’s permission,” she told Moore. “You just shredded the constitution of the film industry and rewrote it.”
The Substance, which has received five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, continues to make waves for its bold exploration of beauty standards and societal pressures.
