Delhi Police Cracks Down on Illegal Immigration, Deports 5 Bangladeshi Nationals Including Woman and Children

The Delhi Police have intensified their efforts to tackle illegal immigration in the capital, especially ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. In a recent operation, the Special Staff team of Dwarka District successfully identified and deported five Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and two children.

This crackdown is part of a broader initiative under the directive of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, aimed at identifying and deporting foreign nationals residing illegally in the city. Dwarka District DCP Ankit Singh spearheaded the operation to trace undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants and other foreign nationals in the area.

Details of the Operation

The Special Staff team conducted a raid on January 1, 2025, near Kali Basti, Uttam Nagar Metro Station, following specific intelligence inputs. The operation led to the apprehension of five individuals identified as:

  • Mohd. Shahid (53), resident of Area No. 16, Bagerhat, Bangladesh
  • Najrul Sheikh (50), resident of Bazar-Sharmashi, Bangladesh
  • Praveen (25), wife of Najrul Sheikh, resident of Area No. 16, Bazar-Sharnashi, PS Moral Ganj, District Bagerhat, Bangladesh
  • Two children of the same family

During questioning, the detained individuals admitted to illegally crossing into India. Evidence such as Bangladeshi mobile numbers and documents were recovered from their phones.

The suspects were presented at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Delhi and later transferred to a detention center in Inderlok for further legal proceedings.

Efforts and Strategies

Under DCP Ankit Singh’s leadership, the Dwarka police have ramped up efforts to address the presence of unauthorized migrants. The team utilized informants, collected intelligence, and conducted verification drives in slums, labor camps, and unauthorized colonies.

The team comprised Inspector Vishvendra Dhaka, SI Rakesh Kumar, ASI Kartar Singh, ASI Resham, HC Adesh, HC Vipin, W/HC Surender Kaur, HC Ajay, and Ct. Ravi, working under ACP Operations Ram Avtar.

This operation is part of an ongoing campaign that previously led to the deportation of 132 foreign nationals in 2024. Among those deported, 116 were from Nigeria, 73 from Ghana, and 48 from Uganda.

Broader Impact

The anti-narcotics cell, along with PS Uttam Nagar, has been instrumental in identifying and detaining illegal foreign nationals. Authorities are extending their operations to neighboring states to verify over 500 suspects as part of this intensified crackdown.

The Delhi Police’s sustained efforts to curb illegal immigration aim to ensure greater security and compliance with immigration laws in the capital.
