Death toll from powerful earthquake begins to rise

At least 50 people have been killed in a powerful earthquake in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. The number of casualties is expected to rise. The quake was also felt in Nepal, Bhutan, India and Bangladesh.

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck China on Tuesday morning. Local media in China said 53 people were killed in and around the Tibetan city of Shigatse. Many were rescued with injuries.

According to international media, the earthquake was recorded at 6.9 magnitude. Reuters quoted the China Earthquake Networks Center as saying that the depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Xizang Autonomous Region (Tibet Autonomous Region) of China. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.1. The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers.
