CPM Urges Bangladesh to Ensure Minority Safety, Compares Fundamentalist Forces to Hindutva Groups in India

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has raised alarms over the rising threat to minorities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus, citing ongoing incidents that jeopardize their safety. In a press statement issued on November 28, 2024, the CPM Polit Bureau expressed concern over the growing activities of fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh, which are working to sow communal discord. The party called on the interim government of Bangladesh to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the protection of religious minorities and to maintain peace and harmony within the country.

The CPM also drew a comparison between these fundamentalist elements in Bangladesh and Hindutva forces in India, accusing them of fueling divisive and inflammatory propaganda. According to the party, these forces are responsible for not only inciting hatred against Muslims but also targeting minorities within India. The CPM warned that such divisive religious politics, rooted in communalism, poses a significant threat to the stability and peace of both Bangladesh and India.

CPM Statement on Minority Safety in Bangladesh:

“The situation of the Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh is continuing to cause concern. Various incidents have occurred that threaten their safety and security. At a time when fundamentalist forces are active to create a communal divide, the Bangladesh authorities are yet to take firm steps to curb communal attacks. For the sake of peace and harmony, the Bangladesh interim government has to act without delay.”

“In this connection, within India, the Hindutva forces are indulging in wild and incendiary propaganda. Their motives are suspect since it is these very forces who are responsible for Muslim-baiting as well as targeted attacks on minorities here. Divisive politics based on religious communalism is harmful both for Bangladesh and India.”
