Colin Farrell is reportedly in talks to star in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming DC film Sgt. Rock, marking his second role in the DC Universe. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot in The Penguin, is set to lead the film, taking on the iconic character of Franklin John “Sgt. Rock” Rock.
The news comes shortly after Daniel Craig’s unexpected departure from the project. The James Bond star had been previously linked to the role of the no-nonsense World War II hero but dropped out of the film last month, opening the door for Farrell to step in.
Sgt. Rock, introduced in DC’s Our Army at War in 1959, follows the tough-as-nails leader of Easy Company, famed for his unwavering commitment during WWII. The film marks a reunion between Guadagnino and Justin Kuritzkes, who also penned scripts for the director’s 2024 films Challengers and Queer.
Farrell’s DC journey began with his portrayal of Oz Cobb in The Batman (2022), which led to his return as The Penguin in HBO Max’s critically acclaimed series The Penguin (2024). The show, focusing on the character’s rise through Gotham City’s criminal underworld, was initially set to be a limited series but could expand to additional seasons, according to director Matt Reeves.
With Sgt. Rock, Farrell is poised to make his mark once again in the DC Universe, joining a growing list of stars taking on iconic roles in the world of DC films.
Stay tuned for more updates on the project and Farrell’s upcoming role in the military action film.
