CIA Employee Pleads Guilty to Leaking Classified Information on Israel-Iran Plans

A CIA employee, Asif William Rahman, pleaded guilty to criminal charges of willfully retaining and transmitting national defense information, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday.

Rahman, who has been with the CIA since 2016, admitted to illegally downloading, printing, and distributing classified information on multiple occasions, including several instances in 2024. Court records revealed that in the spring of 2024, he printed five documents labeled as secret and top secret from his work computer, took them home, reproduced, altered, and shared them with unauthorized individuals.

To cover his tracks, Rahman deleted his activity from his electronic devices, brought the records back to work, and had them shredded.

The leaked documents pertained to Israel’s plans to strike Iran. Rahman’s guilty plea highlights the serious consequences of mishandling classified information.
