Carlo Ancelotti is set to become the new head coach of the Brazil national football team, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first foreign coach to take on the role full-time in Brazil’s football history. The long-anticipated appointment will officially begin in the last week of May, with reports confirming that Ancelotti will arrive in Brazil soon after the conclusion of the La Liga season.
According to reports from the BBC and Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Italian coach will begin his role around May 26. From June, stars like Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo will find Ancelotti leading the team from the dugout. Though the Brazil Football Federation (CBF) has not officially announced the date, they have confirmed his arrival in May.
Ancelotti’s contract will run until 2026. This makes him the first full-time foreign head coach in Brazil’s rich football history. The last time a non-Brazilian coached the national team was in 1965, when Argentine Filpo Núñez took charge on a temporary basis.
The journey to this agreement saw multiple meetings between Ancelotti and the CBF. While both parties initially agreed, Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez was reluctant to release Ancelotti before the Club World Cup. Eventually, Real Madrid agreed to let him leave after the current season.
Ancelotti will make his debut as Brazil’s head coach in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in June, with matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
This role marks Ancelotti’s first time coaching a national team. However, his club-level achievements are unmatched—he is the only coach to have won league titles in all of Europe’s top five leagues and has secured five UEFA Champions League trophies as a manager.
