Three drafts of Bob Dylan’s famous song “Mr. Tamborine Man” have sold for $508,000. It was sold on Saturday at an auction in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
“Mr. Tamborine Man” was recorded and released by Bob Dylan in 1965. He had made three drafts of the song on a typewriter one night last year. The third draft was accompanied by some commentary. The three drafts of the song sold at auction were printed on two yellow papers. It was printed immediately after the first draft.
Sixty works by Bob Dylan were auctioned off at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville yesterday. The three drafts are part of the auction dedicated to Dylan. Fifty items of this auction have been taken from the personal collection of well-known American music journalist Al Aaronowitz.
“Mr. Tamborine Man” is said to have been at Bob Dylan at Aronnowitz’s house one night in March 1964. Aaronowitz had fallen asleep, but Dylan was busy writing a new song while spending the night. Dylan, then 22, drafted the song on his typewriter at his home in Aaronowitz, New Jersey.
In the morning, Aaronowitz woke up to find Dylan sleeping on his sofa. And a twisted draft of his latest song ‘Mr. Tamborine Man’ is lying in the garbage basket.
Bob Dylan’s artwork has been put up for auction at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum by Julien’s Auctions. Martin Nolan, executive director and co-founder of the auction house, described the auction of Dylan’s artwork as “fantastic”.
