After the former U.S. president, former National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and former Secretary of State Antony Blinken have now had their security clearances revoked by Donald Trump. White House officials confirmed this information on Saturday (February 8), according to British news agency Reuters.
The officials also stated that the security clearances of Biden-era Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have also been revoked. All of them have been involved in legal cases against Trump in some capacity.
While this decision may not have an immediate impact, it is seen as another sign of the growing internal divisions in Washington. Typically, security clearances allow former U.S. presidents to attend intelligence briefings to provide advice on national security and foreign policy.
Notably, when Biden took office in 2021, he revoked Trump’s security clearance.
Earlier, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last month revoked the personal security arrangements and security clearance of retired General Mark Milley. Milley served as the highest-ranking U.S. military officer during Trump’s first term. However, after retiring as a four-star general under the Biden administration in 2023, Milley became a strong critic of Trump.
