Bangladesh Condemns Desecration of National Flag and Violent Protests in Kolkata

Government Calls on India to Ensure Safety of Diplomatic Missions

The Government of Bangladesh has expressed its strong condemnation of a violent protest that took place outside the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata. The protest, organized by the Hindu organization Bongio Hindu Jagran, turned chaotic as demonstrators reportedly broke through police barricades, desecrated the national flag of Bangladesh, and burned an effigy of the Hon’ble Chief Advisor of the Government of Bangladesh.

The demonstration, which occurred on the afternoon of 28 November, has raised security concerns among the staff at the Deputy High Commission. While authorities in Kolkata have reportedly brought the situation under control, the incident has led to heightened tensions.

In a press release, the Government of Bangladesh condemned the actions, describing them as “deplorable,” and called on the Indian Government to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Bangladesh also urged India to ensure the safety and security of its diplomatic missions and personnel across the country.

Dhaka, 29 November 2024

The Government of Bangladesh notes with deep concern the violent protest organized outside the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata last afternoon by a Hindu organization of Kolkata named Bongio Hindu Jagran.

The Government of Bangladesh calls upon the Government of India to take necessary measures in order to prevent occurrences of such incidents in the future.
